The owner of this fireplace had done the demo work before we signed on to this job. It was up to us to choose and place the tile correctly to achieve a symmetric and cohesive tile design.
Because we were remodeling an existing fireplace, we were working with a 6-dimensional, predefined space. Due to that, we had very specific parameters to conform to. To make sure that all of the tile looked good and and that the grout lines lined up correctly we selected 3 different kinds of tile. We also physically laid out every tile before beginning to apply the grout.
