Should you go with Granite, Quartz, or Marble Countertops in your New Kitchen?

When I first enter a client’s home to discuss their kitchen remodeling project, one of the things I am always prepared to present them with is different material options for countertops. That’s because, in a lot of ways, the countertops are one of the most important design elements in a new kitchen. The type, color, and style of countertops you have your Tampa Bay kitchen remodeling contractor install in your new kitchen will be very noticeable at first glance, so choosing a look you love is vital in creating your dream kitchen. For most homeowners, the choice comes down to three different countertop materials. These are granite countertops, quartz countertops, and marble countertops, and here are some of the pros and cons of each:

Granite Countertops

If you live in the Tampa Bay area, I am positive you have seen granite countertops in action on many occasions. They are an incredibly popular kitchen countertop option, and for good reason. They offer a gorgeous, modern look that is available in many different colors. Granite is also a very durable material that’s highly resistant to scratches and chips, as well as extreme hot and cold temperatures. To top it off, granite is one of the easiest countertop surfaces to clean! On the negative end, granite is not the cheapest option. But with the rise in its popularity has come lower-priced granite options that may suit your home’s needs perfectly. One more positive word about granite is that, as a Tampa Bay kitchen remodeling contractor, I am always comfortable suggesting granite countertops to my clients because I am sure they will be happy with the results.

Quartz Countertops

Just like granite saw a significant rise in popularity about a decade ago, the last few years have seen a similar rise for quartz countertops. Quartz countertops are actually man-made, which results in more color and style options than you can get with granite or marble. I also love their rich finish, which can give your kitchen that contemporary look a lot of homeowners crave. It also boasts similar, if not better, durability than granite countertops, and is just as easy to clean and maintain. The only con I can think of when it comes to quartz countertops is that they may be just a bit more expensive than granite. But if the look of quartz fits the design style you want in your kitchen, then the small price difference will be quite worth it in the end.

Marble Countertops

For starters, marble offers the measurable benefit of being the least expensive of these three countertop options. But don’t think that means you are sacrificing looks! To some, marble countertops are the most beautiful option of all. The thing I find coolest about marble is that each piece has its own veining, which means that nobody else’s countertops will look quite like yours. They are also available in multiple colors to fit your needs. Marble countertops are, however, the most porous of these three countertop options. That means they are the easiest of these countertops to stain and scratch. But if you are looking for a unique, classic look in your kitchen, then marble is probably your best bet.
